About
Mobilizing Large-Scale Art to Strengthen Detroit’s Cultural Institutions
Dragon Preserves is a Detroit-based nonprofit initiative that creates giant mobile sculptures and interactive events to raise awareness and funding for community organizations that keep Detroit vibrant. What began as a tribute to a beloved dog, Clyde Moop, has grown into a model for transforming large-scale creative works into tools for public engagement and charitable support.
Our Mission
We advance Detroit’s cultural ecosystem by uniting artists, fabricators, and local partners to produce traveling art experiences that inspire joy, curiosity, and community investment.
What We Do
Dragon Preserves collaborates with Detroit cultural organizations to identify meaningful causes and create original character-based sculptures and custom art vehicles that support them. We oversee every stage of the process—from concept development and fabrication to public programming, documentation, and touring.
Why It Matters
Our inaugural project, Giant Clyde, demonstrates how mobile public art can boost fundraising, elevate local institutions, and share Detroit’s creative energy with wider audiences. This model allows Dragon Preserves to continue developing impactful art initiatives that directly benefit the organizations that shape Detroit’s cultural future.
